Australia is a big old country, and at the time of writing this blog, we had travelled through every state and territory. But still we hadn’t scratched the surface. How could we? A lifetime of adventure exists on this continent and no matter how hard we try, we’ll always miss things along the way.
And there isn’t much more that can sum up its vastness than the long stretch of the Nullarbor. Following a map along its lines and blemishes only revealed the bigger picture: a gargantuan dot-to-dot that seemed simple from above, but much more complex on the ground. Once we looked a little closer, we found that lines quivered and dots shifted. The earth changed colour each hour and merging landscapes forced us to record every single thing we saw.
At the beginning of two months of camping around the country, this is a leg of the journey that humbled us. The Nullarbor is a part of the world you need to be prepared for. It’s also a place that every person will see differently. The Marmite (Vegemite) of Australia. This is how we saw it. Two travellers and a beat up old Corolla named Betty.
