Itinerary
Start the day early with your 6:45 am SeaLink bus transfer from Adelaide CBD to the Cape Jervis ferry terminal. Enjoy a 45-minute ferry ride to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island, where your Untamed Escapes Guide will meet you and introduce the adventures planned for the next few days. You’ll also have the chance to participate in conservation efforts as a citizen scientist through the Passport to Recovery program. Download the app during the ferry ride so you’re ready to get started!
Board the bus for a scenic coastal drive to Pennington Bay, located on the island’s south coast. Known for its dramatic waves, this beach is a haven for surfers. Next, climb the 500 steps up Prospect Hill, one of the island’s highest points, for panoramic views and a sense of orientation.
Kangaroo Island is the world’s oldest bee sanctuary, home to the only pure Ligurian Bee population. Visit a local honey farm to learn about these unique bees and enjoy a honey tasting. After a picnic lunch, continue to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery and family-owned Dudley Wines. Relax on their beautiful lawns while taking in breathtaking ocean views—a perfect opportunity to connect with your travel companions.
By late afternoon, arrive at our aptly named campsite, “Happiness,” which boasts private access to one of the island’s most stunning beaches, Antechamber Bay. Enjoy some free time to unwind or take a peaceful walk along the beach.
As night falls, roll out your swag under the stars of the Milky Way and feel deeply connected to nature.

After breakfast, prepare for an incredible wildlife experience. Visit Seal Bay, home to the third-largest colony of endangered Australian sea lions, with around 800 individuals. Join a 45-minute guided tour with National Parks & Wildlife experts to learn about these remarkable animals. Walk along a boardwalk through the dunes to the beach, where you may see sea lions resting or lounging along the paths, while discovering the efforts being made to protect this endangered species.
Next, we head to the iconic Flinders Chase National Park on the island’s northwestern tip. Renowned for its striking rock formations, pristine beaches, and diverse wildlife, this park is a must-see.
At Admirals Arch, follow a boardwalk while soaking in the tranquil atmosphere and spotting resident New Zealand fur seals. Then, marvel at the Remarkable Rocks, shaped by nature over 500 million years.
After a day packed with exploration, return to camp for free time to relax before dinner.

Start your final day with a peaceful bush walk near the campsite. After packing up, bid farewell to “Happiness” and explore the island’s serene north coast. Discover abundant birdlife in the calm waters of a lagoon surrounded by native trees. Enjoy a final shared meal here, followed by a relaxing walk along the shore, keeping an eye out for local wildlife near the American River.
During the warmer months, weave through hidden caves that lead to Stokes Bay, recently voted Australia’s best beach in 2023. If conditions permit, take time to snorkel in the rock pools or simply bask in the beauty of the surroundings.
In the afternoon, engage in conservation volunteering at Zelling Reserve, a wildflower sanctuary managed by the National Trust of South Australia. Depending on the season, activities may include tree planting, seed collection, or weeding, guided by passionate local volunteers.
After three unforgettable days, return to Penneshaw for the 5:30 pm ferry back to the mainland. Upon arrival at Cape Jervis, your SeaLink bus will transfer you back to Adelaide, arriving at around 9 pm.

Please note that on occasion, the ferry times will change from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm, with the return time to Adelaide bus station at 10:30 pm. If this is the case, you will be informed two days before the tour departs Adelaide.

- Tour departs SeaLink Bus Terminal at 6.45am
- Tour will finish with a drop off at Sealink Bus Terminal in Adelaide between 9-10.30pm depending on ferry times. Onward travel should be booked for the following day.
- Comfortable sleeping mats are provided when camping. You will need to BYO travel pillow and sleeping bag.
